ALBA WELLNESS GROUP
Starting Therapy Doesn't Have to Feel Scary
We'll walk you through every step | from your first free call to your first real session.
What We Do
You've been thinking about therapy for a while now. Maybe you've Googled it a few times, opened a website or two, and then closed the tab. Maybe someone you trust suggested it, or maybe the weight of what you're carrying finally feels like too much to hold alone.
Whatever brought you here, we want you to know something important: that hesitation you feel is completely normal, and you don't have to figure this out by yourself.
At Alba Wellness Group, we built our intake process specifically for people who have never done this before, or who tried once and didn't feel seen. We know that the hardest part of therapy isn't the therapy itself. It's making the first call. It's wondering if you'll be judged, if you can afford it, if it's really "that serious." So, we've removed every barrier we can. Your first conversation with us is free, completely no-pressure, and designed to answer your questions, not push you into anything. We'll explain how everything works in plain language, check your insurance for you, and match you with a therapist who truly fits your life, your identity, and your goals.
Whether you're in Panorama City, Lancaster, or anywhere in between, our doors are open, and our process is simple. We believe that starting therapy should feel like relief, not like another source of stress. That's why every step, from the moment you reach out to the moment you sit down for your first session, is designed to make you feel welcome, informed, and in control.
Alba Wellness Group was founded by Patricia Alba, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker with over twenty years of experience in trauma and mood disorder treatment. With offices in Panorama City and Lancaster, California, the practice provides culturally responsive therapy for adults, children, teens, and couples, specializing in anxiety, depression, LGBTQ+ affirming care, EMDR, and Ketamine-Assisted Therapy.
How We Do It
Starting therapy at Alba Wellness Group begins with one simple, low-stakes action: a free consultation.
This isn't a sales pitch or an evaluation, it's a real conversation. You'll speak with a member of our team who will listen to what's going on, answer your questions about how therapy works, and help you understand whether our services are a good fit for what you need. The call typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes, and by the end, you'll have a clear picture of what your next steps look like.
If you decide to move forward, we handle the behind-the-scenes details so you don't have to. Our team will verify your insurance coverage and walk you through any costs before your first session, no surprise bills, no confusing paperwork you have to decode on your own. We accept a range of insurance plans and are transparent about out-of-pocket costs so you can make an informed decision without financial anxiety hanging over the process.
Once your intake is complete, we carefully match you with a licensed therapist based on your specific needs, background, and preferences. Whether you're seeking support for anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, grief, or identity exploration, we have clinicians who specialize in these areas and who reflect the cultural richness of the communities we serve in the San Fernando Valley and Antelope Valley. Your therapist will review your intake information before your first session so that when you walk through our doors, or log into your telehealth session, they're already prepared to meet you where you are.
Your first session is about connection, not interrogation. Your therapist will get to know you, understand your goals, and begin co-creating a path forward that honors your story. There's no script you need to follow and nothing you need to prepare. Just bring yourself, that's more than enough.

Benefits of Therapy at Alba Wellness Group
KEY BENEFITS
-
Most people who are considering therapy for the first time have more questions than they have answers. That's exactly why we start with a free consultation, a genuine, unhurried conversation where you can ask anything that's been on your mind without feeling like you're being evaluated or pressured into booking a session. This call exists entirely for you.
During your free consultation, you'll speak with a compassionate member of our intake team who understands that reaching out took courage. They'll listen to what you're experiencing, explain our services in straightforward language, and help you determine which type of therapy, individual, teen, child, couples, ketamine-assisted therapy, or anger management, might be the best starting point. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you honestly and help point you in a better direction. There's no hidden agenda here.
For people across the San Fernando Valley and Antelope Valley, access to mental health care can feel complicated and impersonal. We've intentionally designed this first step to feel like the opposite. Whether you call from Panorama City, Lancaster, or anywhere in between, you'll experience what it feels like to be treated as a whole person, not a case number. By the end of the conversation, you'll know exactly what to expect, what it costs, and who your therapist might be. That clarity alone can be a relief that makes the next step feel possible.
-
Financial uncertainty is one of the biggest reasons people delay starting therapy. You might be wondering whether your insurance covers mental health services, what your copay will be, or whether you'll get hit with an unexpected charge after your first session. At Alba Wellness Group, we take that entire burden off your plate. After your free consultation, our team handles insurance verification directly, we contact your insurance provider, confirm your benefits, and explain your coverage to you in clear, simple terms before you ever step into a session.
We believe that understanding the cost of therapy shouldn't require a degree in health insurance. That's why we break it down for you personally: what your plan covers, what your out-of-pocket cost per session will be, and what payment options are available if you're uninsured or underinsured. We discuss all of this with you before your first appointment, so there are no surprises. Transparency isn't just a value we list on our website; it's something you'll experience at every step.
For families and individuals in Panorama City, Lancaster, and throughout the greater Los Angeles area, navigating insurance can be especially frustrating when you're already dealing with stress, anxiety, or emotional pain. We remove that friction because we believe the hardest part of therapy should be deciding to start, not figuring out how to pay for it. Our administrative team works behind the scenes so that by the time you sit down with your therapist, the only thing you need to think about is you.
-
Not every therapist is the right therapist for you, and that's not a flaw in the system, it's just reality. The relationship between you and your therapist is one of the strongest predictors of whether therapy will actually help. That's why we don't randomly assign you to the next available clinician. Instead, we take the time to understand who you are and what you need, and then we match you with a therapist who reflects your values, understands your background, and specializes in the challenges you're facing.
During your intake process, we consider factors that many practices overlook: your cultural identity, your language preferences, your comfort level, whether you prefer a direct or gentle communication style, and the specific issues you want to work on, whether that's anxiety, trauma, depression, grief, identity exploration, relationship difficulties, or something you haven't been able to name yet. Our clinical team includes therapists with deep expertise across these areas, and many of our clinicians share the lived experiences of the diverse communities we serve in the San Fernando Valley and Antelope Valley.
This intentional matching process means your first session feels less like meeting a stranger and more like being welcomed by someone who already understands the landscape of your life. For clients who are people of color, LGBTQ+, or who have previously felt unseen in clinical settings, this level of care in the matching process can make the difference between a therapy experience that transforms your life and one that feels like going through the motions. You deserve a therapist who truly sees you, and we make sure you get one.
-
If you're imagining your first therapy session as an awkward interrogation where you have to spill your entire life story to a stranger taking notes on a clipboard, take a breath. That's not what happens here. Your first session at Alba Wellness Group is designed to feel like a conversation with someone genuinely interested in who you are and what matters to you. Your therapist will have already reviewed your intake information, so they'll come prepared, not to quiz you, but to connect with you.
In that first session, your therapist will introduce themselves, explain how they work, and ask what brought you to therapy. But here's the part most people don't expect: they'll also ask you what you want out of this experience. Your goals matter. Your pace matters. If you want to dive right in, you can. If you need the first few sessions just to get comfortable, that's perfectly fine too. There's no timeline you're supposed to follow and no "right" way to do therapy. This is your space, and your therapist will follow your lead while gently guiding you toward the growth you're looking for.
For many first-time therapy clients in the San Fernando Valley and Antelope Valley, the first session is the moment where the fear starts to dissolve. You realize that your therapist isn't there to judge you or "fix" you, they're there to help you understand yourself more deeply and build the life you actually want. Most clients leave their first session feeling lighter, more hopeful, and genuinely surprised by how natural it felt. That experience isn't accidental, it's something we're very intentional about creating.
-
Therapy only works when you feel safe enough to be honest, and for many people, especially those from marginalized communities, that safety depends on knowing your therapist understands your world. At Alba Wellness Group, cultural responsiveness isn't an add-on or a checkbox. It's woven into every aspect of how we operate, from the clinicians we hire to the language we use to the way we structure our intake process. We honor the full spectrum of identities, experiences, and backgrounds our clients bring through our doors.
Founded by Patricia Alba, LCSW, with over 20 years of clinical experience, our practice was built on the belief that healing happens in community and that therapy should reflect the diversity of the communities it serves. Whether you're a person of color navigating systemic stress, an LGBTQ+ individual seeking affirming care, a first-generation American dealing with cultural expectations, or someone whose identity has never quite fit into neat categories, you belong here. Our therapists bring not only clinical expertise but also cultural humility and a deep commitment to meeting you exactly where you are.
In the San Fernando Valley and Antelope Valley, the communities we serve are beautifully diverse, and they deserve a therapy practice that mirrors that diversity. You shouldn't have to educate your therapist about your culture, translate your experience, or code-switch during sessions that are supposed to be your safe space. At Alba Wellness Group, you can bring your whole self. That's not a slogan, it's a promise we keep in every session, with every client, every day.
-
We understand that your life doesn't stop because you started therapy. Between work schedules, family responsibilities, school pickups, and the general unpredictability of daily life in a busy metropolitan area, keeping appointments can feel like one more thing on an already overwhelming to-do list. That's why we've built flexibility into how we schedule and manage appointments at Alba Wellness Group.
We offer appointments across two convenient locations, Panorama City in the San Fernando Valley and Lancaster in the Antelope Valley, as well as telehealth options for clients anywhere in California. Whether you prefer in-person sessions at a location near you or the convenience of therapy from your own home, we make it work. Our scheduling team works with you to find times that fit your life, including options that accommodate work schedules and school hours.
Our cancellation policy is straightforward and respectful. We ask for 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule, because your therapist has reserved that time specifically for you. If life happens and you can't make it with less notice, we'll talk it through and figure it out together. We're not here to penalize you for being human. We do ask that cancellations don't become a pattern, because consistency is one of the most important ingredients in effective therapy. But we also know that sometimes the car breaks down, the kid gets sick, or you just have a day. We get it. We're flexible because we respect that your life is complex, and therapy should reduce your stress, not add to it.

Our Process
Step 1
Reach Out & Schedule Your Free Consultation
Your journey begins with one simple action, calling us at (818) 741-2906 or filling out our online contact form. There's no commitment involved and no information you need to have ready. Our team will schedule a free consultation call at a time that works for you, typically within a few business days. During this 15-to-20-minute conversation, you'll share what's been going on in your life, ask any questions you have about therapy, and get a clear sense of whether Alba Wellness Group is the right fit for your needs. This call is designed to feel warm, welcoming, and completely free of pressure.
Step 2
We Verify Your Insurance and Explain Your Costs
After your consultation, our administrative team takes over the logistics. We contact your insurance provider directly to verify your mental health benefits and determine what your plan covers. Once we have that information, we call you back and explain everything in plain language, your copay, your deductible status, and any out-of-pocket costs. If you don't have insurance or your plan doesn't cover our services, we'll discuss alternative options with you. This step usually takes one to three business days, and you won't be asked to schedule your first session until you feel fully informed and comfortable with the financial details.
Step 3
Get Matched with the Right Therapist for You
Based on what you shared during your consultation, your concerns, your background, your preferences, and your goals, our clinical team identifies the therapist who is the best match for you. We consider clinical specialty, cultural responsiveness, communication style, scheduling availability, and location preference. You'll receive information about your matched therapist before your first appointment, so you know who you'll be meeting. If at any point you feel the match isn't right, we encourage you to tell us. We’ll work together to find someone who feels like a better fit. Your comfort is more important than our convenience.
Step 4
Complete Your Intake Paperwork | Simple and Straightforward
Before your first session, you'll receive intake forms that can be completed online from the comfort of your home. These forms cover basic personal information, a brief overview of your mental health history, and your therapy goals. The paperwork is designed to be clear and easy to understand, no jargon, no invasive questions. It typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Your therapist reviews this information before your session so they can come prepared to connect with you rather than spending your valuable session time on administrative tasks. If you have questions about any part of the forms, our team is available to help.
Step 5
Attend Your First Session and Begin Your Journey
This is the moment everything has been building toward, and it's simpler than you think. Show up at your scheduled time at our Panorama City or Lancaster office, or log into your telehealth session from wherever you feel comfortable. Bring yourself, and if you'd like, bring a list of things you want your therapist to know or questions you want to ask. Your first session lasts approximately 50 minutes and focuses on building connection, understanding your goals, and beginning to map out a path forward together. There's no right or wrong way to do this first session. Your therapist will guide the conversation at your pace, and you'll leave with a clearer sense of what therapy with us will look like moving forward.
Our Approach
At Alba Wellness Group, our approach is built on a single, foundational belief: you are not broken, and therapy is not about fixing you.
It's about creating the conditions for you to discover your own strengths, understand the patterns that have been holding you back, and build a life that truly reflects who you are and who you want to become. This philosophy, established by our founder Patricia Alba, LCSW, informs everything we do, from the way we answer the phone to the way we structure each session.
Our clinical team draws from a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including EMDR for trauma processing, DBT for emotional regulation, IFS for understanding the different parts of yourself, and psychodynamic approaches for exploring deeper patterns in your relationships and inner world. For clients who may benefit from innovative treatment, we also offer Ketamine-Assisted Therapy under careful clinical supervision. But we never lead with a modality, we lead with you. Your therapist will select and adapt their approach based on your unique needs, your goals, and what actually works for you in practice. If something isn't resonating, we adjust. Therapy at Alba Wellness Group is never one-size-fits-all.
What makes our practice distinct in the San Fernando Valley and Antelope Valley is our deep commitment to community-based care. We understand that the people who walk through our doors in Panorama City and Lancaster carry not just individual struggles but the weight of systemic challenges, cultural expectations, intergenerational patterns, and community dynamics that shape their daily lives. We don't ask you to leave those realities at the door. We integrate them into the therapeutic work because we know that real healing requires seeing the whole person, not just the symptoms.
We also believe that the quality of care you receive is directly connected to how well our clinicians are supported. That's why we prioritize a clinician-centered model where our therapists have the resources, supervision, and professional development they need to show up fully for every client. When your therapist is thriving, you receive better care. It's that simple, and it's a commitment we take seriously every single day.
